Zama Phewa, Clinical Psychologist, in professional attire

About me

Hi, I’m Zama

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist working in Private Practice, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Health Care Funders (BHF).

My clinical training included an internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, where I worked across adult, and child and family units.

During this time, I provided psychological assessment and intervention to individuals presenting with a broad range of acute and chronic mental health difficulties, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, trauma-related presentations, suicidality, substance use, crisis presentations, and the psychological impact of medical illness.

I completed my community service at Johannesburg Correctional Centre, where I provided psychological services within a forensic setting. My work involved the assessment and treatment of individuals with diverse mental health presentations, including severe mental illness, trauma-related difficulties, mood disorders, substance use, suicidality, and complex psychosocial challenges.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”

My hope for our work together

My hope is that therapy becomes a grounding space where we can make sense of difficult experiences, cultivate deeper insight and self-understanding. If you are feeling uncertain, overwhelmed, or simply in need of a space to pause and reflect, I welcome you to reach out.
